Dev Log #3: The Launcher Goes Live, Gear Comes Alive

This article describes work in progress, not changes already released to the live client.

A finished launcher

The new installer and launcher we started building the week before came together this period. You can now change screen mode and resolution from inside the launcher, install and log in without ever leaving it, and use it in your own language. The installer properly asks for the right permissions, carries the correct name and icon, and updates now download in parallel pieces so patches install faster. We also overhauled how we build and publish updates internally, which should make new patches reach you more reliably going forward.

Cloth and movement

Cloaks, capes, and other cloth-like gear move and drape naturally again after being broken for a while. Jumping now faces the direction you intend, including while mounted and when other players are watching you, and movement starts the instant you press a key instead of after a slight delay. We also fixed two crashes that could happen while changing maps, made sure movement speed bonuses from your gear match what they are supposed to, and stopped damage over time effects from slowing you down more than intended.

Gear that actually looks the part

Cosmetic outfits and other players' equipped appearance items now display and stay in sync correctly. Effect based accessories, like wings, render the way they should. Enchanted weapons glow with the correct color and brightness for their grade, both on your own screen and when other players look at your character.

Smoother combat and animation

Animations got missing sound and facial cues back, blend more smoothly into one another, and talents now play at the right speed with the correct recovery time afterward. Glowing and translucent effects look more vivid and correct. Releasing your guard while still moving no longer briefly snaps you into a standing pose, idle characters now shift between a wider variety of rest poses instead of repeating the same one, skills that do not need a target fire straight from your crosshair as expected, and trying to cast a stationary skill while moving now gives you a clear message instead of doing nothing.
